Dumbass of the week: Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Bills/Rogers, Ken Griffey Jr.

After an Olympics break, in which nobody behaved like a dumbass (HA!) here is another look at some sporting idiots, including some of your favourite NHL teams.

Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks stumbled half-assed into their supposed rebuild, by hanging onto Ryan Kesler and forcing him grin and bear it for the final five weeks of this season, instead of trading him away. All it did was intensify his feelings and this will not bode well when they ask him to waive his no-trade clause this summer. But when they traded away Roberto Luongo, mere months after saying goodbye to Cory Schneider, GM Mike Gillis also proved to be a big dumbass. By trading away the best goalie in the organization, that is called giving it up for the season. They give up one stud, but keep another. Talk about sending mixed messages to the fan base.

Edmonton Oilers

Shannon Szabados will apparently join the SPHL Columbus Cottonmouths Friday but come on dumbasses, you could have made history by signing Canada’s golden goddess for a backup role Tuesday night. There was even a ready-made Twitter campaign bubbling that Oilers GM Craig MacTavishcould have used to help assuage the bad feelings of countless Oilers fans who are reduced to looking longingly at their backyards and lawnmowers yet again as they head into yet another spring without NHL playoffs.

Buffalo Bills/Rogers

With the announcement of a one-year moratorium, the Bills Rogers dumbass deal was finally exposed as a giant mistake. Who wants to see empty seats and (shudded) Rob Ford in the Rogers Centre each time the Buffalo Bills roll into town bringing their sub-par, barely NFL-ready team into the Big Smoke each season? Not many NFL fans, obviously who were probably ticked off from the beginning when Ted Rogers and Ralph Wilson cackled over the rubes who would have paid anything to see NFL football in Toronto. How did that work guys?

So far the reaction in Western New York seems positive.

Ken Griffey Jr.

When he was a player (as he so inelegantly put it) Ken Griffey Jr. was known for his thousand-wattage smile, but in his retirement, he must have gone to the school run by Albert Belle in how to be a complete jerk! Watch the cringe-worthy interview on ESPN Sportscenter and marvel and the sullenness of a hall of fame player. Dumbass, at least you could show some basic human decency.

Well at least his said he was sorry.

What do you think?
